Vietnamese art may not be as highly recognised as work from some other countries, but it is one to watch out for. One doesn’t have to look too far to see that the country’s paintings are amongst the most creative contemporary paintings in Asian art.
If you’ve never had a chance to view Vietnam’s best works, Asian Art House in association with ITC Windsor, Bengaluru, is hosting an exhibition to showcase fine work originating from Vietnam. Vogue catches up with art collector and founder of Asian Art House, Rajika Mittra, who shares five reasons to take home a piece.
It is vibrant: Vietnamese artists create vivacious paintings that are simple and representative of their daily lives. “The theme of most of their works are simple village scenes, autumn leaves or a beautiful depiction of Aodoi, the traditional Vietnamese dress. The paintings are well-textured and have multiple layers that give them a 3D effect. They’re also very colourful and use warm tonal colours with hues of green, red, orange and yellow,” says Mittra.
It is affordable: The unique artworks being showcased by the Asian Art House are priced between Rs 25,000 to Rs 70,000.
Emerging market: This art form is growing steadily all over the world. Vietnam has a very special, beguiling form of artistic expression which is irresistible, yet profound in many aspects.
It is unique: Vietnam has some serious talent, with artworks that are mesmerising, expressive and thought provoking. The creations have depth and vividness of colour that is reflective of their day-to-day. “Vietnamese artists beautifully integrate the everyday happenings of their lives and the beauty of nature in their paintings. What they see around them they paint on their canvases,” says Mittra.
It’s a perfect fit for your home: Vietnamese art is a very happy art. “These are painting you will want to use in your homes and see everyday because they are so simple and brilliant,” says Mittra.
