Stream: Le Trieu Dien's Exhibition

DUMONTEIL is pleased to present Stream at DUMONTEIL Contemporary Paris. Featuring up to 20 works of the artist’s most recent creation, LE’s unique “figurative abstract” narrative incorporates images, motifs, and ancient characters of various ethnic groups and religions that permeate the daily life of Vietnam, expanding the spatial and temporal dimensions of the canvas with rhythmic colors, lines, and brush strokes.

Like artists who tell stories of love, hardship or past glory, Le Trieu Dien, counting four decades of artistic production, recalls the moments of happiness and the difficulties of his life through works depicting the landscapes of the Mekong River delta.

His artistic vocabulary is characterized by simple forms and is composed of arrows, triangles, circles, spirals, and squares. Some of them represent real objects, the triangle for example symbolizes the roof of traditional Vietnamese houses.

However, the real intention of Le Trieu Dien, seeking its own expression, is to transcend the simple representation of reality to achieve the abstraction of direct emotions.

As Le Trieu Dien said: “People say that memories will hinder my creativity, but for me they inspire it and feed my emotions day after day. On Le Trieu Dien’s canvas, strokes of different colors produce interlocking shapes in unrecognizable imagery; but the colors vibrate and the rhythm they produce unfolds before the viewer creating a unique sense of vibration.

The imagery of Le Trieu Dien not only appears as a personal narration of the past but also becomes a source of emotions and energy allowing the viewer to reach a direct and intuitive spirituality. The paintings of Le Trieu Dien are enchanting stories, transmitted from generation to generation and which inspire us with universal spiritual experiences.
